Robert Bob Okello is a Founder and CEO at Maarifasasa Limited, a cutting-edge Ugandan education technology company leveraging technological innovations to democratize access to 21st-century education and skilling for the future of work. He is a passionate and results-oriented digital entrepreneur with a zeal for changing the world through education, technology, and entrepreneurship, helping individuals living in complex often low-resource settings. Bob is an ardent technologist, adventurer, reader, globetrotter, and enjoys meeting new people and interacting with new cultures.
Bob is a more natural dreamer, but he loves to put his dreams into action!
Growing Up in Uganda
Bob rarely left his village growing up. He finished primary school and secondary school, and Bob almost dropped out at this point. He thought he would return to his village and tend cattle. It was when his principle suggested a school in Kampala that was offering scholarships for school. Bob left his village for the first time and was able to continue his education. This opportunity led him to travel to Norway and the University of Oklahoma for schooling.
Giving Back
Bob believes talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not. Bob has always desired to give back to others. He is incredibly thankful for the opportunities he was given and wants others to have access to opportunities as well.
Maarifasasa is Bob’s company which is dedicated to democratizing knowledge. His goal is to give everyone access to learning through an online program. The company is built off of Bob’s experiences with learning as well as what he has learned while abroad!
Bob’s Advice–
Treat everyone around you with respect. Your peers become your colleagues and connections for later in life! Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, and that is what changes the world.
