Mike Reilly: The Voice of IRONMAN
Mike Reilly, the official “Voice of IRONMAN” worldwide and a member of the IRONMAN Hall of Fame, the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame and the Running USA Hall of Champions, is the only person to have been inducted into all three.
Mike has also done on-site announcing and television coverage for over a thousand other triathlon and running events in 10 countries. October 2021 will mark his 31st appearance as announcer of the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
He’s called 194 IRONMAN races worldwide, and his iconic call of “You are an IRONMAN!” has been heard by over 350,000 finishers.
Mike is a big dreamer. Early in life he thinks he was too much dreamer and not enough doer. Mike loves to dream, but he has begun turning it into doing.
Life in Sports
Mike had a great childhood. He recounts the many sports he spent playing in school. When he grew up, he opened a shoe store and loved his job.
Becoming the Voice of IRONMAN
One day Mike was offered a job to be on radio and he was ecstatic. Mike thought he was in heaven!
Mike began to take this job to heart. He made the finish line about the athletes who finish, not about him. He loves to make each athlete feel the moment of what it’s like to cross the finish line. It is a declaration of what each person has become.
Writing His Book
Mike had the dream to write a book for a long time. He wanted to share all the stories he witnessed on a daily basis. Mike wrote his book with the idea in mind that you would walk away thinking if he/she went through this, I shouldn’t be complaining about what I’m going through. You can find Mike’s book here.
