Gabriel Lewis: MasterChef

Chef Gabe is a fast food server turned private chef. Through hard work and tenacity, Gabriel became a top 7 finalist on the Gordon Ramsay hit cooking show MasterChef. He is the Okie Award Best Chef of 2019 and caterer in Oklahoma City.

A Foodie From the Start

Gabriel comes from a family who loves cooking. Any time he saw food being prepared it would bring his family close. Cooking made him happy and helped him relive the memories he had. It became a passion of his.

Food was always at the forefront of his thoughts, but Gabriel always wanted to explore entrepreneurship. He thought of becoming a business man while growing up. However, he wasn’t as passionate about it like he was with cooking.

Becoming a MasterChef

Gabriel’s sister saw that MasterChef was holding auditions in Oklahoma and encouraged him to do it. He registered for the show when he was 18. He had been watching Masterchef since 2010, so auditioning was a dream come true.

Cooking was a lot of trial and error. He practiced and used his family’s comments to help him improve in his cooking. He received the email to try out for the show in California right before his nineteenth birthday. When he got to California, the judges were intimidating, but the little voice in his head told him to follow everything he knew.

In high school, a lot of people doubted him. His classmates thought he should go into business. He had people who didn’t support his dream, but that only motivated him to prove that he could achieve his dream. The hardest part of the journey was staying uncomfortable. Getting comfortable will not motivate you to push towards your dream.

GABRIEL’S Advice

Gabriel expresses that you should take your time figuring out your dream. Once you know, take your time to reach your dream because you will get there eventually. Anyone that doubts you, use that as fuel to help you pursue your dream.

Key Takeaways:

  • Take time to figure out your dream.
  • Enjoy the journey in achieving your dreams.
  • If people doubt you, use that as fuel to work harder.
