Biz Boot Up Ep 12: Integrity in Business with Nancy Pierce and Pastel Pastries

Welcome to the Business Boot-Up Edition of The Dreamers and Doers Podcast! We believe you are never too young to start a business. We’re bringing you live interviews from the Norman Farmer’s Market in Norman, OK. Each episode will feature one of our student-run businesses where they will be sharing what they’ve learned by starting a business to encourage you to start yours too!

Nancy Pierce with Moore Norman Technology Center

Nancy Pierce, recently retired Entrepreneurship Instructor from Moore Norman Technology Center, spent four decades teaching Oklahoma teens about entrepreneurship and understanding personal finance.  For 35 years, she has offered students hands-on business experience via a clothing company that helps fellow students and their families.

Surrounded by entrepreneurs, Nancy started her first business at the age of 7.  Utilizing her little red wagon she created, sold, and delivered all occasion greeting cards to everyone in town.  The most important thing to run a successful business is integrity and to give back by sharing knowledge and supporting the community.  When starting a new business she advises to put both feet in and get going, don’t wait until it is perfect!

Skye Delgado with Pastel Pastries

Skye creates unique pastries of all types including fudge, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, cookie sandwiches, edible cookie dough, and custom cakes!

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Skye decided to take what she learned from her mother in the kitchen and sell cakes and pastries.  Her biggest challenge was finding the start-up cash to purchase her supplies and learning how to create the more difficult designs for her pastry creations.  Her favorite thing about running a business is having the opportunity to bake whatever she wants!
