Personal Growth with Brent and Carolyn

At Loveworks, we believe that one of the ways that you can become one of the best versions of yourself is to focus on personal growth. We love curating things like books, music, organizations, blogs, or resources that have encouraged your personal growth.

Today we are going to share about a childhood hero that still inspires us today.

Fred Rogers- One of the first programs I watched as a child was Mister Roger’s Neighborhood. He actually didn’t like TV programs that were out there, so he created his own. He lived a life where he was kind to everyone. Tom Junod. “All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.”

I’ve always been a space geek and from a very young age idolized Neil Armstrong. When I was probably ten, I watched a documentary about the first moon landing. And there was this part where the really slow computer aboard the lunar lander couldn’t keep up with the automatic landing calculations. And they were going to abort the first moon landing because of a computer error. But Armstrong took the controls and went manual to land the craft…they landed without a drop of fuel left in the tanks…but it worked.  I always saw that as hero material. When the going gets tough, and your resources (like a landing computer) aren’t available, you go manual and figure it out anyway. Incidentally, there was another space hero you probably know, who kinda did the same thing in the first Star Wars movie (Luke Skywalker blew up the Death Star without help from the targeting computer). “Use the Force Luke” is actually pretty good advice.

Max Arguile: Licensing Agency Founder

From 1996 to 2018 Max negotiated and signed over 1000 contracts in the genres of music, film, TV, brands, art, photography, football, video games and animé, working as a licensee with all the major and most of the minor licensors and agents, for the UK, European and global deals across multiple products.  By 2018 his contact list was so extensive it made sense to form an agency. Reemsborko is now the little agency that can – a  boutique agency that brings a passion for pop culture backed by experience and strong relationships across the whole of the licensing industry. Much like the Big Bang, the pop culture explosion seems only to be expanding further and further into even the most distant corners, helping the kind of properties and fandom that was once deemed ‘underground’ pitch new flags in the mainstream channel, and finding new ways to engage audiences the world over.

Max’s ADVICE –

Certainly what is important is having an education and having a dream. To be able to think about what you might want to do, even if you’re wrong. And it doesn’t matter if you’re wrong, even if you’re wrong about what you think you want, it doesn’t matter. When you go for something, you will eventually find something, if you just keep going forward. You will eventually find something. It might not necessarily be what you were thinking at the beginning, but if you start down a path you can be very surprised about where it might take you.

Key Takeaways:

  • Even if you don’t know what you want to do, do what you enjoy
  • If you throw enough mud at the wall something will eventually stick
  • Just keep active and will lead you to your dreams
  • If you don’t try, you’ll never know
  • Always challenge yourself to do what other people are not trying
  • Have a dream and keep trying different things, you will eventually find your way
